Amelia Asder is a mixed media artist and is graduating with a BFA from Portland State University in June of 2026. She has been focused on making sculptures because she loves the tangible nature of it. Ever since she was a kid she's made sculptures using recycled materials. Through her sculptures and other works she is able to explore many materials and techniques through one piece. Papier-mâché and paper in general have been her main mediums for the past couple years while also incorporating other mediums such as sewing, image transfer, and lino stamps. Through collaging and papier-mâché techniques she enjoys manipulating newspapers, flyers, and anything else she can get her hands on. She likes how it's a very accessible art form and how the papers she uses are already imbued with a past, they have been printed, looked at, touched. This coincides with themes we see in her work such as memory and grief. She is hoping to make more large scale pieces and continue to refine her practice!
